  • The Manufacturer: The hallmark reads “RENEKA,” a prominent silversmithing firm founded in 1927 by René Kauss in Strasbourg, France.

The "10" Mark: In French silver-plating, a number stamped inside a square or rectangle signifies the precise amount of pure silver used to plate the object or batch. In this case, 10 grams of silver were used during the electroplating process to coat the tastevin.
  • Design Purpose: The raised thumbpiece tab allows the sommelier or winemaker to hold the shallow bowl securely. The reflective inner surface is crafted to catch the light, helping the taster examine the clarity, color, and depth of the wine.
  • Estimated Era: Circa 1930s – 1950s
  • Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic vintage French tastevin (wine tasting cup) manufactured by the renowned silversmithing firm Reneka in Strasbourg, France. Founded in 1927, Reneka is celebrated for its high-quality hotel and restaurant-grade hollowware.
This traditional sommelier's cup features a classic shallow bowl designed to catch and reflect light to judge the color and clarity of wine.
  • The thumbpiece tab is cleanly stamped with clear French hallmarks: the "RENEKA" maker's name, the square "10" stamp (indicating the 10-gram silver-plating standard), and the manufacturer's regional maker's mark silhouette.
  • Perfect addition to a vintage barware collection, a unique gift for a wine enthusiast, or a striking display piece.
  • Condition Report:
    • Overall Condition: Good vintage "as-found" condition with excellent structural integrity. No cracks, major dents, or deep gouges.
    • Surface & Patina: The item exhibits a heavy, rich dark tarnish and patina throughout from age. It is being sold completely unpolished to preserve the original silver layer and historical character, leaving the choice to polish up to the buyer.
    • Plating: The silver plating appears fully intact beneath the oxidation, with no obvious signs of base-metal bleeding or heavy plate loss on the high points.
Please review the photos carefully as they form part of the description. Sold as-is.
